Today, we will go through it all, so let’s dive in.

Why Did Porsche Discontinue The Gas 718?
The gas 718 left Europe in 2024 because of stricter cybersecurity rules, Motor1 reported.
Other markets are also losing it, following EU legislation.
The 718 was still selling well at the time. Motor1 says it sold 23,670 units in 2024, up 15%.
Porsche has since planned the next Boxster and Cayman as electric cars.
So the move followed rules and strategy, not weak demand at the time.
When Did Porsche 718 Gas Production End?
Porsche Cars North America said the last gas 718s would be built in October 2025, according to PAS Magazine.
The report was dated May 27, 2025, and named Porsche’s Frank Wiesmann as the source.
2024 was the last full year of production.
Europe stopped regular sales earlier, apart from limited special editions.
The 718 also stopped taking U.S. orders in 2025, per a report on Porsche’s U.S. sales.
Is The Porsche 718 Still Being Sold?
New gas 718s are now very hard to find. Porsche sold only eight in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2026, down from 1,719 a year earlier.
Year to date, U.S. 718 sales reached 252, a drop of 95.3%.
Those numbers come from a report dated October 16, 2026, so treat them as reported figures.
Any new gas car you find now is most likely leftover stock.

Is Porsche Bringing Back The Gas 718?
Not so far. Porsche’s 2026 Capital Markets Day plan covered only electric versions, Motor1 reported on October 7, 2026.
Spokesperson Matthias Rauter said a combustion 718 was “never actually confirmed for a comeback.”
Porsche had earlier hinted that top versions could keep combustion engines.
That idea was never formally approved, so it was not formally canceled either.
Only a vague “potential midterm drivetrain portfolio” appeared on a roadmap slide.
Will There Be An Electric Porsche 718?
Yes. The next Boxster and Cayman are planned as fully electric cars.
A reveal is expected in 2027, with 2028 planned as the first full production year.
The project was first announced in early 2022.
CEO Oliver Blume has promised they will be “even more dynamic, even more powerful, with a pure driving experience,” per Motor1.
Porsche has already dropped its goal of EVs making up 80% of sales by 2030.
Is Porsche Discontinuing All Gas Cars?
No. Porsche is keeping combustion and plug in hybrid development alongside batteries.
The 911 is not part of the all electric plans.
A new combustion or plug in hybrid SUV is also due in 2028 to replace the original Macan.
The old gas Macan is on its way out too, and Motor Authority says sales already stopped in Europe.
So the 718 is the clearest case of gas ending, not the whole brand.
Conclusion
The gas Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman are discontinued, and Porsche has not confirmed a gas comeback.
Production was set to end in October 2025, and the next 718 is planned as fully electric.
A reveal is expected in 2027. If you want a gas one, look for leftover new stock or a used car.
